ANNAPOLIS, Md: The weekend of October 4-6 was a big one for the United States Naval Academy. The main event being the Saturday, October 5 football game between Navy and the United States Air Force Academy, part of the Commander in Chief’s Trophy tournament. The weekend also had lots of puck action at the McMullen Arena, part of the Brigade Sports Complex.

The Academy’s D1 hockey team had two games versus University of Pittsburgh, while the D2 team hosted the C I C hockey tournament. The C I C tournament was made possible by the USAF D3 hockey team flying in with the football team, as well as the United States Military Academy coming down from West Point, NY. Also included in the hockey portion of the weekend, was the first ever contest between military academy women, when Navy took on Air Force. Last but not least, McMullen also saw the annual Navy Hockey Alumni game take place before the Army vs Air Force game.

The Brigade Sports Complex also hosted Navy vs Air Force in rugby, as well as a Women’s tennis tournament. There were also other sporting events on campus over the wekend. All in all, it was a very busy, but entertaining weekend. I was able to cover and photograph all seven hockey games and the football game. It was an incredible weekend with lots of excitement and pageantry. Here’s a brief recap of  how the weekend went, before a photo essay of the weekend. Full coverage of the individual games have already been provided on the PHN website.

Friday night, Navy lost to Pitt 6-4, while the D2 team lost to Air Force 5-1. Saturday, Air Force defeated Army 5-2. In football it was Navy beating Air Force in the main event 34-25. Back at the rink it was Pitt over Navy 4-2. The final game of the night say Navy Women defeat Air Force 9-0. Only one game remained on Sunday, and that was the Army/Navy hockey game, won by Navy 4-3.
