Navy D2 and Citadel Take It Outside

Hershey, PA- The Naval Academy Midshipmen took on the Citadel Bulldogs in an outdoor game at Hersheypark Stadium on Sunday, January 28, 2018. It was the Midshipmen coming out on top with a 4 – 1 victory.

The Citadel got on the board first in the first period on a goal by William Coffey, with an assist from Joshua Hardesty with 1:01 remaining.  In the second period it was Navy taking over and scoring three goals in the middle of the period. Navy got on the board on a penalty shot scored by Cameron Dean with 12:48 left to play.  Just over two minutes later, it was Anthony Pluchino from Strom Ossenmacher to take the lead with 10:35 remaining. Kevin Harris scored twenty one seconds later with an assist from Mark Hanson. The third period was back and forth with only an empty net goal scored by Cameron Dean with eleven seconds remaining.

 

Bulldogs goalie Joseph Pappagallo stopped 28 of 32 shots, while Navy’s goalie Mitch Stangel recorded 21 saves on 22 shots.

Mid-Season Update: Navy #2 in ECHA Standings

After a rough start, Navy has surged its way to #2 in the ECHA standings. To earn a bid to the National Championship, Navy must win the Regular Season title in the ECHA.

The results of Navy's first 5 league games are as follows as well as league points earned per game:

LOSS vs. Towson, 3-2 in SO (1 pt)

WIN vs. Lehigh, 6-3 (3 pt)

LOSS vs. Villanova, 7-6 (0 pt)

WIN vs. Temple, 7-4 (3 pt)

WIN vs. Lehigh, 4-2 (3 pt)

Navy has seen strong performances from Freshman Joe Kelly and Connor Hyden (both 18 points on the season).  Matthew Stamler (Junior) and John Linenger are leading the upperclassmen with 16 and 15 points respectively. Junior Goalie Luke Markus has posted impressive GAA and Save Pct. in Navy's past 5 league games.

 

This weekend Navy faces Drexel and Villanova in league play.

Games are at 1930 at McMullen Arena this weekend (17/18 NOV)!
